ACTIVITIES OF THE DIRECTORATE
Extradition requests:
Namibia co-operates with other countries in extradition matters on the basis of the Extradition Act of 1996 which envisages co-operation on the basis of extradition agreements signed with foreign countries or on the basis that the country has been designated by Namibia as a country with which Namibia wishes to co-operate
Mutual Legal Assistance in criminal and civil matters:
Namibia co-operates with foreign countries on the basis of the International Co-operation in Criminal Matters Act 2000. The Act envisages co-operation on the basis of the conclusion of bilateral agreements/treaties or designation of a foreign country by Namibia. Namibia has concluded agreements on co-operations in criminal matters with the following States: South Africa, Brazil, Turkey, Zambia, Germany, Cuba, U.S.A, Portugal, United Kingdom, Canada, Switzerland.
Mutual Legal assistance in civil matters
Namibia co-operates with other countries on the following legal framework:
- Extradition Act no 11 of 1996
- International Co-operation in Criminal Matter's Act no 9 of 2000.
- Civil Process (High Court Act no 16 of 1990).
- Reciprocal Maintenance Order Act no 3 of 1995.
- Reciprocal Civil Service Process Act no 27 of 1994.
